Victory is a beautiful Palomino gelding who arrived at Hoppin’ Horse Farm in 2013, thin and malnourished with little to no training. He was one of our first therapy horses! He is estimated to have been born in about 2005. Today, even though he is now blind, he is still an essential part of our therapy programs, having the knack for connecting and giving the best neck hugs. He is the leader of his herd and is a favorite with kids with Roscoe as his protector. Victory would love some hugs from you and a sponsorship to cover his care.

Scout is a wonderful buttermilk buskin who was donated by Ann Barker in about 2015 after she adopted him from a local rescue. It is estimated that he was born in about 2011. He was barely 2 years old and malnourished when Ann adopted him and just 4 years old when he came to Wild Hearts. During his time at Wild Hearts, he has become a beautiful steed and is the first to greet all of the new horses who come to Wild Hearts. You might find him wandering the yard looking for scratches. Scout needs a sponsor to assist with his annual care.

Shiloh has a heart of gold born from situations unknown. He came to us underweight and untrusting in about 2014. His body has blossomed, and his heart and mind are ready to be tapped. While it is obvious that he suffers from some form of post-traumatic stress disorder, it provides a foundation for him to truly understand our Veteran population, as well as others who have experienced trauma. His kind and willing spirit is a breath of fresh air for those who have the honor of working with him. Shiloh stands 14.2 hands and is estimated to have been born in about 2000. He is in need of someone to care for his annual needs.

Clara is a beautiful black and white Tennessee Walking horse. When she was initially rescued in the winter of 2014 with Shiloh, she was covered in lice and severely underweight. So severe was the starvation in her herd that one of her pasture mates did not make it after being rescued. It took two years of quality care and kind, considerate horsemanship to help this beautiful mare become the wonderful therapy assistant she is today. Clara has a kind heart, loves clients with emotional needs and seeks them out. She needs someone to help fund her annual care.

Thunder is a big gray Percheron who came to us from a loving environment but with minimal training. His mother was carrying him, as part of the PMU movement, when she was adopted by a woman named Robin. He was born in about 2004 and stayed with his mother for six years before she passed. Standing at 18 hands and sounding like rolling thunder when he gallops, Thunder loves working with his clients and is partially sponsored by Tina Goulet. Please consider coming alongside Tina to help cover the annual costs of this big fella!

Ariel is a beautiful Appendix chestnut mare born in 2007. She was donated to us by a local Clemson student in 2016 and served many types of clients for several years until she developed head-shake syndrome. She is retired from therapy and resides at Wild Hearts in sanctuary with her herd. Because Wild Hearts commits to caring for our horses until they leave this world, Ariel is in need of someone to sponsor her annual care.

Clifford is one of our resident miniature donkeys. He was born at The Cliffs in northern Oconee County in approximately 2007 and was purchased for us by one of our incredible volunteers, Lori McGregor. He was our first donkey and is a wonderful part of our equine staff. He loves to have his inner ears rubbed. He and his mini herd are great when working with family groups or people who are a bit shy when it comes to the bigger horses. Clifford is partially sponsored by Lori and John McGregor.

Cinnamon is a sweet, little miniature pony who was born in about 2009 and donated by a local physician. She carries our smaller clients, helping them feel confident and reassured, while also connecting with our adults who just want to form a bond. She serves as our ambassador for anything from school visits, to parades, to assisted care facility visits. She is looking for someone to sponsor her annual care.

Kit is our resident “Black Beauty”, a Morgan/Percheron cross who was born in 2002 to Scoutie. Kit and Scoutie were donated by Audra and Clint Fast and who continue to partially sponsor her annual care. Kit loves soft, quiet work and is very quick to let you know when she wants something. She can always be found near her mother, Scoutie. and is in need of a sponsor to help with her annual care needs.

Scoutie is a wonderful Morgan/Percheron cross born in 1997. She was donated by Audra and Clint Fast, the same lovely family who continue to partially sponsor her. She enjoys working with special needs clients, is in high demand due to experience, and is the solid matriarch of the farm. Scoutie and her daughter Kit share a life-long bond and can be found near each other most of the time. Scoutie would love another sponsor to help with her annual care needs.

Roscoe is an incredible Walking Paint-Aloosa gelding who was rescued in 2014 and is estimated to have been born in about 1998. He loves people and showing off his big, beautiful trot. His best friends are Victory and Clara. Roscoe is loved by and partially sponsored by Sandy Kumm. Please consider joining Sandy by sponsoring part of his annual care.

Fiona is a sturdy, Haflinger mare born in 2009 who came to us in September of 2018. Fiona is one of our rock-star therapy partners. She is extremely capable, super sensitive, able to alert our staff to seizure activity and valiantly leads her herd. She loves food and bodywork. She is in need of a sponsor to help with her annual care needs.

Blue was born in about 1999 and is a beautiful Percheron draft horse who was donated by Kelly Duffy. His first career was pulling carriages for weddings and now truly appreciates his retirement job of working with special needs people. When he’s not working with someone, you can find him wandering in the yard, looking for belly scratches! Delsey Brown loves Blue and partially sponsors his care.

Sven is a fun-loving, goofy Gypsy Vanner, whose nickname is the “gremlin” because he is very curious, needing to know what is going on all of the time. He was born in 2013 and is ver versatile, loving his work with small groups of students in one-on-one situations, to being ridden by staff and students alike. He is looking for a sponsor to help with his annual care.

When she is in the pasture, you can bet that marvel will be nearby. Daisy is partially sponsored by Kelly Byrne and would love to have another sponsor to help with her annual care.

Sweet T is a pony cross, likely born in about 2004. He was a starvation case rescued out of Union County when he was about 7. He came to us in 2015 and was restarted at Wild Hearts as an 8-year-old. He is a wonderful part in our programs. Slow and steady. Kind and careful. Sweet T is the epitome of a southern gentleman and is fully sponsored by Jenn Cartledge. Thank you, Jenn!!!

Bowie was born in the summer of 2019. Orphaned at about a month old, he was raised by a lovely woman, where he battled pneumonia and other orphan-related issues. On a dark, chilly November evening when Bowie was just 4 months old, he was attacked by dogs, sustaining over 75 puncture wounds and lacerations. He couldn’t eat or drink due to mouth lacerations, so he spent several weeks in rehab at Wild Hearts. Little by little, Bowie recovered, and his owner donated him to our programs. He is a sweet character who loves to be scratched and needs a sponsor to help with his annual care.

Chuck has lived several places in his life. He was donated by Faith Connelly, along with his little buddy, George. He is thoughtful, observant, and carries a lot of wisdom. He is a great partner in our programs and likes music. Chuck is in need of someone to help sponsor his annual care.

George is a gray and white spotted miniature donkey born in about 2019. George and Chuck joined the Wild Hearts herd together in late 2020. Cute and curious George can be found in Pasture Paradise or wandering the yard with the rest of the donkey crew when not partnering with clients! George would love a human partner to help sponsor his annual care!

This cute, little stud-muffin was part of another equine therapy program before he was donated to us by Jessica Jackson in 2019. He was born in 2010 and loves being brushed, having chiropractic work done, as well as partnering with people who prefer to stay on the ground. He is partially sponsored by Jessica Jackson and would love another sponsor to help cover his annual care.

She is the perfect size and loves to work in our programs. Jet is searching for an annual sponsor to help with her care.

Faith is a grade Anglo-Arabian, estimated to have been born in about 2003. She spent years as a show pony for a young girl who grew up, had two small kids, and didn’t have a lot of time for Faith any longer. Faith found her way to Misty McAdams who later donated her to Wild Hearts in January of 2022. Faith is a sweet soul in need of annual sponsorship.

Pope, aka “Expectaholotmore”, is a registered thoroughbred, chestnut gelding. He had five starts on the racetrack and then suffered a leg injury that kept him from racing and competition sports. He loves to partner with our clients and can usually be found next to his buddy Sam. Pope is partially sponsored by several members of our community.

Willy is a cute little white pony with some unfortunate handling in his background. He came from a feral herd in Georgia and is estimated to have been born in about 2002. He is partially sponsored by Whisper Ranch and looking for someone to help with the remainder of his annual needs.

Horses who left a legacy

Mac was our Belgian draft horse. He came to the farm with Victory and Roscoe as one of the first three horses we acquired in 2013. Like most of our horses, Mac was a rescue. At the time, he was approximately 22-23 years old and was rumored to have been a carriage horse in Charleston. But a rescued horse’s past is normally a secret only the horse truly knows, and lucky for us most horses are quick to leave a sad history behind. His body condition was terrible when he arrived and we honestly didn’t know if he would make it two more weeks. But with lots of love and over 300 acres of pasture to roam freely on he made a quick and strong recovery. He was an integral part of our early programs, helping people to understand that horses can be kind and sweet. Mac crossed over the rainbow bridge in July of 2017, having had four blissful years at Hoppin’ Horse Farm and Wild Hearts. We miss him sorely.

Ben, affectionately known as our gentle giant and big teddy bear, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 9, 2023 at the age of 24. He had a fabulous life, pulling carriages in his early years, doing hunt courses and mounted archery, and for the last four years he provided unconditional love and therapy for so many at Wild Hearts. He is running with the wind, free of pain. He was donated and partially sponsored by Eliot Meikle. Thank you to everyone who loved Ben and contributed to his care, whether with medical treatment, love and hugs, or finances. You all helped to make his life at Wild Hearts beautiful, and we are forever grateful for the time we had with him.

Sweet, kind, wise Marigold was with us for exactly a year after we rescued her from being starved. When she came to us, you could count every rib and hang a hat on her hip bones. She also had severe damage to one of her hooves that required extreme intervention and care. Throughout her year at Wild Hearts, she slowly regained her body condition, learned to trust humans, and was dearly loved by all. She was very special and sponsored by Ginger Barthel.

Dusty was a strong, incredible pony, who stood 12 hands tall. He had been everywhere and done everything, including being on the Mall in Washington, DC. He loved his three mashes a day and hanging out with his bestie, Brena. Dusty enjoyed being a yard pony and working with young clients. Even at 27 years old, he was very curious and friendly. Dusty was donated and partially sponsored by Susan Melvin and is sorely missed.

Brena was a stunning American Paint Horse who was donated to Wild Hearts by Lauren Hamrick to be an official therapy horse. She was born in about 2000 and in the prime of her spoiled life. She had an easygoing personality, the cutest ears you’ve ever seen, and a strong desire to connect with humans. She made a habit of following people around the yard for belly scratches!
